"Mwaahahaha. I should rip copies of DVDs and make PDFs of comics to put online! Wait, what pirate should I be talking like?"
This tweet from a friend and former colleague got me laughing this morning and reminded me that today, indeed, is "Talk Like a Pirate Day."
It is pretty scary, though, that this is a common image brought to mind by the word "pirate" these days. While I doubt that there will be many kids dressing up as software or music pirates for Halloween this year (or talking like them today), clearly people picture more than Blackbeard when they think about pirates.
All of which makes this promotion from Microsoft all the more curious (and amusing?) - click on the image to see a larger version (and read the pirate-speak):
Definitely an interesting choice (and mixed message?) given how active Microsoft is on the anti-piracy front!
