Filling the Gaps in Software Licensing

Last week we announced our newest product, CodeArmor Intelligence for FlexNet Publisher. It is a new solution for Flexera FlexNet Publisher customers to generate revenue by taking control of their license overuse and piracy issues without impacting their license management infrastructure, licensed customers, or product functionality and performance.

Why do you need it? For too many years software licensing has been positioned as an anti-piracy solution despite the fact that no license management solution can prevent overt piracy. Licensing is best positioned as “keeping honest customers honest,” and kudos to Flexera for addressing this issue.

As V.i. Labs President and CEO Joseph Noonan mentioned in our announcement: “CodeArmor Intelligence for FlexNet Publisher fills a void in software vendors’ compliance strategies when they rely on licensing alone. Our mutual customers are adding 10 to 25 percent to their revenues by targeting infringers and recovering revenue from pirated or overused software.”

Licensing solutions have not been successful for preventing software piracy. Software intelligence, on the other hand, enables the conversion of unlicensed users to paying customers - which reduces piracy in the environments vendors care most about. It quantifies the issues and reinforces where vendors would focus their efforts (addressing compliance opportunities, for example).

We have leveraged our experience with FlexNet Publisher customers to integrate CodeArmor Intelligence into more than 150 applications to create this new version of CodeArmor Intelligence. Software vendors who have combined Flexera’s FlexNet Publisher with CodeArmor Intelligence have generated actionable intelligence on the use and misuse of their applications and have recovered more than $100 million in additional revenue so far in 2012.
