Adobe Creative Cloud

This week we’ve got another intriguing list of torrents to digest, with Adobe taking the stage with 7 entries in the top 10. It may seem easy to explain this trend, as Adobe just released their Creative Cloud 2014 product, but let’s take a closer look at the fallout caused by so many releases. The first thing worth noting is that the majority of the releases were produced by a cracker by the name of ChingLiu. This individual is well known, responsible for hundreds of verified torrents uploaded, and very well trusted in the torrent scene. With so many trusted torrents released so soon after the initial product release, the number of illegitimate users of this software will grow very quickly, causing a chain reaction of other releases.

Plugging In to Piracy

Whenever a product dependent on plug-ins sees a piracy release there is always an increase in releases for the plug-ins related to it. This week we see a torrent for Topaz Photoshop Plugins Bundle, a popular product that adds functionality to Adobe Photoshop. Like sharks in a feeding frenzy, the piracy groups are scrambling to release anything related to the host product in an attempt to get a piece of the fame the initial release will inevitably bring. We see this time after time: one release is never the end of the story and it’s important to understand the bigger picture in order to help our customers recover the revenue that they’ve lost to piracy.

The AV Club is Popular

Now that we’ve broken down the major trend let’s take a look at what remains. As usual we see a release of keys for various antivirus vendors, including Kaspersky, Avast, and Avira. These are a constant threat to the profits of their respective software companies and are easy reputation boosts for the piracy groups that release them. Also on the list is a remainder from last week’s rush of Microsoft torrents, something that we expect to see more of in the future.

Thanks for joining us on this deep dive into the psyche of the piracy underworld and I hope you’ll join us next week in our continued quest helping you recovering your lost revenue!
